The City of East Moline is accepting applications for the position of Chemist for the Water Filtration Plant. Primary function will be the overall responsibility for performance of a certified laboratory in the analysis of municipality produced water in accordance with state and federal regulatory standards, assist in process controls, record keeping and reporting in accordance with state and federal regulatory standards for the city of East Moline. Must be able to monitor daily operations, river conditions and water quality by performing tests and chemical adjustments.
Applicant must possess an Illinois Water Operator's Class "A" Certificate or ability to obtain it within a 12 month period; B.A. in chemistry, biology, or a related field; minimum of two years experience as a bacteriologist and/or chemist in water purification plant or equivalent combination of experience and training. This position commands management skills, and thorough knowledge of water operations. Must be able to instruct & train personnel, monitor daily operations, perform a variety of chemical and bacteriological tests by utilizing and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment to keep plant in compliance, and maintain a safe work environment. Basic working knowledge of personal computer, including Word and Excel and data bases; must possess good written and verbal skills.
