Fire Prevention Week

Pre-school and Elementary school students
|
Visits are made to all pre-schools and elementary schools in East Moline. Children and teachers are reminded of fire safety and given materials to take home to share the safety messages with their families.

High Rise Fire Safety

High Rise Residents
|
Residents of the high rise buildings (those over 2 stories) within East Moline are given an informal presentation outlining the safety precautions they can take.
Information is also shared on the steps to take if a fire occurs and what to do in their specific building.
Residents are given a handout and shown where fire pull stations are located.

Remembering When
|
Senior Citizens (65 and older)
|
Fire and fall prevention program developed by the state of Illinois.
Those involved in this program will be presented with information to prevent fires in their home and prevent hazards that may result in a fall.

Adult Fire Safety
|
Adult community groups
|
Residents learn about the fire triangle, classification of fires and types of extinguishers.
Fire prevention measures are discussed and extinguishers reviewed and used.
|
CPR and First Aid
|
Healthcare providers, community groups, and individuals.
|
CPR and First Aid classes are given by American Heart Instructors.
Classes range from the basic course for 'Family and Friends' to the advanced course for 'Healthcare Providers'.

| Third Grade Station Visit

Third Grade Students
|
Students spend the morning at station #22 learning about fire safety and what a firefighter does while on duty.
The class is split into groups and taken through various activities.

Operation Prom Night

High School Seniors |
All high schools seniors view a presentation aiming to prevent drinking and driving within the high school population.
Operation Prom Night has been a successful program presented at many Quad City area high schools for many years.
Students witness a mock scenario involving a 2 car accident where victims are cut from vehicles by fire department personnel.
Students then witness an ER scenario

Fire Extinguisher Class

Company Employees
|
After a brief presentation describing the elements of fire, when and how to use an extinguisher, all participants are given the opportunity to extinguish a small fire using a Dry Chemical Extinguisher.

School Newsletters
|
Elementary Schools
|
Children are given a newsletter to take home and share with their families.
These are distributed 3-4 times a year and include safety messaged and puzzles. |
Beast Busters
|
Pre-school and elementary age children
|
Children are given a glow stick attached to a brochure giving safety tips to follow while 'trick or treating'.
This program is funded through contributions from businesses in the community |
