Due to expeditious construction of the Morton Drive project, we have agreed to allow the contractor to close Morton Drive earlier than initially planned. Starting May 12, 2008, Morton Drive will be closed entirely from19th to 27th Street. Traffic will be detoured to 8th Avenue, with the streets (19th - 27th) changing to two-way traffic. The council was notified last evening of the project status and made aware of the closure change.
We appreciate your cooperation, and look forward to the continued success of this important project.
The Illinois Department of Transportation's construction project on the frontage roads on both sides of the Avenue of the Cities, from Kennedy Drive to 7th Street on the North frontage road and 7th to Archer Drive on the South frontage road, began today.
The contractor (Valley Construction Company) started on the North frontage road. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times on the frontage roads. The Contractor's anticipated completion date is June 17,2008, weather and budget crisis permitting.
On the North Side, the contractor is only removing and replacing sidewalk and driveways from 4th Street to 236 feet past Checker's East driveway.
On the South Side, the Contractor is not only removing and replacing sidewalk and driveways but overlaying the frontage road with 2" of Hot Mix Asphalt.
