MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ON 10/07/2002 ROLL CALL Mayor Moreno called the meeting to order and directed Deputy City Clerk Kathryn VenHuizen, to call the roll. The following Aldermen were present: Helen Heiland, John Thodos, Luis Moreno, Carol Doose, Rick Meredith, Gary Kelley and Crotis Teague. 7:10p.m. City Garage Site Preparation, Bruce Willemarck On September 3, 2002, the City Council approved to accept bids for $850,000 general obligation bond for Phase I construction of the New City Garage. Competitive bids for Phase I site work are currently being accepted and bid opening will be Wednesday October 16, 2002. RECOMMENDATION: Motion to approve to accept competitive bids for new City Garage, Phase I site work at 1164-13th Avenue. Bids to be brought back to the full City Council on October 21, 2002 for consideration. A motion was made by Alderman Teague, seconded by Alderman Meredith, to accept the recommendation as presented. Upon roll call the following voted in favor: Heiland, Thodos, Moreno, Doose, Meredith, Kelley and Teague. Hiring New Police Officer, Capt. Dowell With the retirement of a senior officer, it will create an opening in the police department. The difference in salary between captain and probationary police officer will result in a $19,000 savings to the budget. Discussion was held regarding budgeting in the City and the possibility of waiting until January to hire a new officer. Capt. Dowell informed the Committee that the academy has an opening as of October 13, 2002. A motion was made by Alderman Moreno, seconded by Alderman Thodos, to approve hiring a new officer. Upon roll call the following voted in favor: Heiland, Thodos, Moreno, Doose, Meredith, Kelley and Teague. Motion approved. 2002 Tax Levy Discussion, Jim Hughes This is the first presentation of the 2002 Tax Levy. Mr. Hughes presented the tax levy then received comments from the Committee-of-the-Whole as to what direction they want to go with the tax levy. Proposed Schedule
ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Alderman Kelley, seconded by Alderman Teague, to adjourn the meeting.
