The Detective Division follows up on crimes reported to the police department. The detectives are assigned to follow up on all felony or other major cases. There are five detectives assigned to the unit that specifically handle criminal cases in East Moline. Two of those detectives handle general crimes, one specializes as a juvenile detective, and two are assigned to the Special Operations Unit that conducts proactive investigations in vice crimes such as narcotics and prostitution.
Three detectives are assigned to outside agencies. Two of them are assigned to the Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG). These two officers work locally in the Illinois/Iowa Quad City area in the investigation of narcotic violations. The East Moline Police Department receives a grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority that funds one of the officers assigned to the MEG. The third detective is assigned to the Federal Gang Task Force. This detective works under the direction of the FBI along with other local, state, and federal officers assigned to the task force. This task force places their focus on investigations of the local gangs and to build conspiracy cases to be prosecuted in Federal court.
