East Moline Police Department The East Moline Police Department Bicycle Patrol team is made up of 18 officers who have attended a 40-hour International Police Mountain Bike Association certified course. The bike officers are used for a variety of patrol purposes from neighborhood patrol to event security. Bike officers ride several miles during a course of duty, sometimes in the range of 15-20 miles. Bike patrol teams are extremely effective means of policing. Bicycles give officers the ability to reach areas unreachable by car. The public also considers officers on bicycles as more approachable than those in squad cars. Citizens in East Moline have been very receptive to the bike officers and frequently see them on patrol. The East Moline Police Bicycle Team rides Trek and Gary Fisher mountain bicycles purchased in cooperation with Jerry and Sparky’s bike store. Recently, team captain Tom Peterson received a generous contribution from the Quad City Bike Club to purchase cold weather uniforms for the members. The members of the bike team appreciate the support from the community. |
